quill-ytmusic
A single-user tool that keeps one person's YouTube Music discovery playlist fresh.
What it is
quill-ytmusic is a small personal automation, not a public service, not a product, and not distributed to anyone else. It runs on one machine, for one Google account — its owner's. It connects to the owner's own YouTube Music library with the owner's permission and does two things: reads listening history and writes a private playlist.
What it does
- Reads the account's own listening history and liked songs to learn what the owner actually listens to.
- Expands from those into YouTube Music's own recommendations to find related tracks.
- Filters out anything already in the library, recently played, or duplicated.
- Writes the result to a new private playlist, dated by week.
What it does not do
- It does not create, modify, or delete playlists the owner did not create through this tool.
- It does not upload, download, rip, or redistribute any audio.
- It does not serve other users, accept sign-ups, or expose an endpoint to anyone.
- It does not sell, share, or transmit listening data to any third party.
How it works
Authorization uses Google's OAuth 2.0 device flow with the
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/youtube scope. The resulting refresh token is
stored in a permission-restricted local file on the owner's machine. It is never sent
anywhere except to Google's own API endpoints.
Scheduled runs are triggered locally by the operating system's task scheduler. There is no server of ours involved at any point.
